Roland Leggett

Voting Rights Coordinator

For Roland, it all started in a Detroit park helping his grandmother volunteer. Nearly 30 years ago she brought him along to help out at a snack stand benefiting a scholarship fund for a historically black college. He didn’t know it at the time, but it would prove to be the first day in what has become a lifelong commitment to social justice. From volunteering at bake sales to running statewide campaigns, he’s done more than most. Roland has had the opportunity to work with leadership and grassroots activists in labor, the LGBTQ community, environmental justice, racial justice in a host of communities. He has dedicated his life to informing and changing hearts with a focus on progressive and community-based values. He has served as Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party LGBT&A Caucus since 2019 and joins us as our new Voting Rights Coordinator.
