Michigan League of Conservation Voters Responds to Release of Flint Water Report

LANSING — Lisa Wozniak, Executive Director of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters, released the following statement today in response to the release of the Joint Committee on the Flint Water Public Health Emergency report:

“The release of this report confirms what we all knew in the aftermath of the Flint water crisis — robust oversight is needed when dealing with the basic needs of our communities. Now, the Legislature needs to act on this report, and we look forward to assisting them and Gov. Snyder in passing much needed reforms and getting more assistance to the people of Flint. Unfortunately, what this report lacks are clear steps in addressing the environmental injustices that continue to haunt Flint and other urban centers, a point that was clearly articulated by the Flint Task Force this past March. While the report’s recommended establishment of a DEQ oversight commission is an important step in the right direction, the makeup of that commission will be the determining factor in its effectiveness and its critical role of prioritizing public health and natural resources protection.”
