Michigan LCV statement on Line 5 Risk Analysis

LANSING – The Michigan League of Conservation Voters (Michigan LCV) today renewed their call for a Line 5 shutdown following the release of a draft analysis on the impact of a “worst-case” oil spill in the Straits of Mackinac.

“Each day oil pumps through Line 5 under the Straits of Mackinac is another day we risk an oil spill that would devastate our precious Great Lakes, upend our recreation and tourism industries and cost our state billions of dollars,” said Lisa Wozniak, executive director of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. “Today’s report reinforces the fact that oil pipelines do not belong in the Great Lakes. We renew our call for Attorney General Bill Schuette and Governor Rick Snyder to shut down the 65-year-old Line 5 Pipeline immediately and reject efforts to build a tunneled pipeline in the Straits of Mackinac.”
