Michigan LCV response to MDHHS ‘Do Not Eat’ Deer Advisory

LANSING – The Michigan League of Conservation Voters (Michigan LCV) today issued the following statement in response to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ issuance of a “Do Not Eat” deer advisory for a five mile radius around the contaminated Clark’s Marsh in Oscoda.

“Hunting and fishing is part of our heritage and the way many Michigan families spend time together, yet now we have rivers where we can’t eat the fish and a pristine area in the north where we can’t eat the deer we harvest,” said Bob Allison, deputy director at Michigan LCV. “With more than 1.5 million people already potentially impacted by PFAS, this should be a wake up call for us all. We need a governor and Legislature that are going to tackle this crisis head-on, clean up our water and protect our state’s economy. We need a robust, enforceable drinking water standard to protect the health of communities across Michigan.”
