Michigan LCV endorses democracy and voting rights champion Jocelyn Benson for secretary of state

Lansing, MI — The Michigan League of Conservation Voters (Michigan LCV) today announced their endorsement of Jocelyn Benson for secretary of state. 

“Michigan is at its best when everyone’s voices are heard and their votes counted; thanks to Secretary Benson’s leadership our state is an example of what healthy democracy looks like,” said Lisa Wozniak, executive director of Michigan LCV. “Secretary Benson is a proven leader who has fought for fair and safe elections, and she will continue to support policies to modernize Michigan’s election system to ensure access to the ballot without fear of intimidation and to maintain a democracy that everyone trusts.”

In her tenure as Secretary of State, Benson has shown time and time again that she is an advocate for a healthy democracy that is accessible for all. Just a few of her accomplishments to-date include:

• Implementing expanded voting options and rights introduced by Proposal 3 in 2018, including no-reason absentee ballots, secure drop boxes, and early weekend voting
• Executing a historic election during a global pandemic in 2020 that saw record numbers of Michigan voters cast ballots and make their voices heard 
• Working to maintain trust and transparency surrounding our democracy in the face of anti-democracy attacks on Michigan’s elections 

Michigan LCV’s endorsements are awarded to candidates who demonstrate a strong commitment to protecting the environment, the health of Michigan’s communities, and our democracy.
