MI Senate passes legislation that would make it harder to vote

SENATE BILL 303, SECURE MI VOTE BALLOT INITIATIVE PERPETUATE “BIG LIE,” AIM TO MAKE VOTING HARDER

LANSING – The Michigan League of Conservation Voters issued the following statement today after the Michigan State Senate passed an amended version of Senate Bill 303, aimed at limiting absentee and in-person voting options, restricting funding for elections, and the freedom to vote for Michigan voters. 

“Today’s Senate vote on the amended version of Senate Bill 303 perpetuates the Big Lie that the 2020 election was stolen, and makes it harder to vote after Michigan voters turned out in record numbers during the 2020 election,” said Clare Allenson, Democracy For All Director for the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. “Today’s vote indicates that GOP-sponsored voter suppression legislation in Lansing is effectively adopting the same policy position as the so-called ‘Secure MI Vote’ anti-voter ballot initiative that is attempting to circumvent a veto from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. This bill and the ballot do not solve any problems and are unneeded; they are sloppily drafted, restrict voting options, hamper our local clerks and make it harder for Michiganders to make their voices heard and ensure their ballots are counted on Election Day.”
