Governor Whitmer signed the “Filter First” bills to provide clean drinking water to children at schools and in day care centers. The signing and passage of this legislation is another step forward in Michigan’s efforts to provide clean, safe, drinking water, and it is a leadership moment for Michigan as it represents the first of its kind nationally. 

The Filter First bill package will require all schools and childcare facilities to develop a drinking water management plan, which will include the installation of water filtration systems at each drinking water source to remove contamination. This is part of an ongoing intention from the Executive Office to provide Michigan children with healthy, safe drinking water to all children at the crucial stages in their brain and intellectual development.
