Governor Whitmer has appointed Dr. Timothy Boring as the Director of the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD). He has served in key positions on multiple agricultural committees, which have prepared him to step into this new role. In 2021, Dr. Boring was appointed by President Biden as the State Executive Director of the USDA Farm Service Agency. Dr. Boring also has a long family history of farming, as a sixth generation family farmer in Stockbridge. He earned his Master of Science in Crop and Soil Sciences, and a Ph.D. in Crop and Soil Sciences from Michigan State University.
Dr. Timothy Boring is an excellent appointment to direct MDARD, which continues to play a key role in the health of the Great Lakes, as agricultural practices impact water quality and environmental outcomes across the state.
