Governor Whitmer has appointed Alessandra Carreon to the Michigan Public Service Commission. Carreon is the first Asian-American commissioner in Michigan’s history. She will represent Democrats for a two year term, succeeding previous Commissioner Tremaine Phillips. 

Michigan LCV has scored this appointment as a 2 out of 4 due to Carreon’s experience as a clean energy expert which will be essential as the clean energy transition of Michigan’s electric grid continues. Carreon led electric vehicle battery circulatory projects to promote equity and more accessible EV chargers. She has served in many positions including work in environmental consulting, regulatory compliance, and corporate sustainability programs. Carreon is also a licensed professional engineer. Cumulatively, this experience will serve her well as she serves on the Michigan Public Service Commission. 

Governor Whitmer has also reappointed Chair Dan Scripps as an MPSC commissioner. Scripps also brings a wealth of experience to the MPSC as he has served on the PSC since 2019. Before his first appointment, Scripps held numerous energy-related leadership positions, including serving as president of the Michigan Energy Innovation Business Council, Midwest policy program director for the Energy Foundation, and vice president for the Advanced Energy Economy. 

Appointing clean energy experts like Carreon and Scripps to the Michigan Public Service Commission is a signal from the Governor of her prioritization of Michigan’s clean energy future. With more clean energy experts and advocates serving on Michigan’s top utility-watchdog commission, Michigan will have a strong future as we continue to transition away from fossil fuels to clean energy.
