Margy Belchak

Major Gifts Manager

Margy Belchak is a personable, innovative, and passionate nonprofit leader with decades of successful experience in fundraising and people-powered political organizing. A native Michigander raised near the shores of Lake Huron, she learned to love and protect the great outdoors at an early age. After graduating from Kalamazoo College with a degree in biology and environmental studies, she worked with the Fund for the Public Interest running door-to-door canvasses for progressive and environmental organizations such as the Sierra Club.

Career and family took Margy to live in Ann Arbor, Boston, Chicago, and then back to Kalamazoo where she put down roots and worked in development roles with local nonprofits including Kalamazoo Valley Habitat for Humanity, the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, and the LGBTQ services center, OutFront Kalamazoo.

In 2018, Margy was motivated by the political climate to dust off her walking shoes and go door-to-door again, organizing for the Michigan Democratic Party and helping to secure big wins for Democratic candidates and progressive issues in the midterm elections. She stayed on with the Kalamazoo County Democratic Party in the newly-created role of Director of Development and spearheaded back-to-back record-breaking years of fundraising and led the party to sweeping victories in county-wide elections in 2020.

Margy enjoys gardening (especially weeding & pruning), dreaming about doing crafting & sewing projects (actual project completion rate is fairly low), and thrifting. An amateur botanist, she loves being outside and is slowly converting her yard to native Michigan plants. She lives in Kalamazoo with her wife, two teenage daughters, 200 pounds of dog (a Great Dane and a Plott Hound/Mastiff mix), a scraggly old cat, and an indoor jungle of plants.

Margy brings a diverse set of skills, a strong commitment to excellence, and an impressive record of success to the development team at the Michigan League of Conservation Voters.
