Bi-annual report offers grades for administration’s record on key issues impacting Michigan’s land, water and air

The Michigan League of Conservation Voters released its 2015-2016 Governor’s Report Card today scoring more than eighty actions taken by Governor Snyder’s administration since 2015 and providing grades in seven key issue areas.

Each action is scored based on the scope and severity of its impact both positive or negative for Michigan’s natural resources. The administration is then given an overall letter grade on each issue area. Those grades are as follows:

Flint Water Crisis – F
Clean Energy – A
Air Quality – D PLUS
Great Lakes & Michigan Waters – C
Public Lands – C MINUS
Waste & Recycling – B
Appointments – C PLUS

While his leadership role in the passage of a nationally recognized bipartisan clean energy reform deserves praise, Governor Snyder’s legacy is overshadowed by the shameful role his administration played in creating the Flint water crisis,” said Lisa Wozniak, executive director. “All eyes will be on the Governor during his final months in office in hopes of seeing bold leadership on the many challenges facing the Great Lakes and our drinking water.”

The Michigan LCV Governor’s Report Card provides Michiganders an opportunity to see how well the Governor and his administration walks-the-walk in protecting and promoting conservation values. Michigan LCV encourages its members and all Michigan voters to use this report to hold Governor Snyder accountable for where he has fallen short, to offer praise for where he has done well, and to articulate clear opportunities for his improvement going forward.

Despite the critical importance of our environment to our health and economic well-being, too many communities across Michigan still live with the burden of polluted air and contaminated water.“ said Charlotte Jameson, government affairs director. “Governor Snyder has the opportunity during the next two years to take decisive action to protect Michigan’s public health and environment. The strong bipartisan energy win in 2016—for which the Governor received an A grade—shows that when Governor Snyder champions conservation and public health, the state can come together around smart policy solutions that grow our economy and protect the health of our communities and our natural resources.”
