GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Conservation Voters of Michigan PAC (CVM PAC) today announced a $572,000 ad buy on West Michigan broadcast TV, making sure voters know about the troubling track record of Republican Matt DePerno as he runs to be the state’s attorney general.

Running From The Law” will air until the election across major stations as part of an aggressive $3.8 million independent expenditure campaign through the CVM PAC, an electoral arm of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters.

“Michigan needs an Attorney General who will be the people’s attorney, not someone who is under criminal investigation and running from the law,” said Bob Allison, deputy director for the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. “DePerno is facing five years in prison for tampering with voting machines, not to mention he was investigated for unethical conduct and fired from a law firm for overcharging his clients. When it comes to defending our democracy and environment, Dana Nessel has proven time-and-again that she stands with Michiganders.”

The broadcast TV buy comes after DePerno was added to the 2022 Dirty Dozen in the States list by Michigan LCV’s national affiliate, the LCV Victory Fund. Modeled after LCV Victory Fund’s federal Dirty Dozen, the Dirty Dozen in the States highlights 12 candidates running for office at the state level who have consistently sided against the environment and purposefully undermined and threatened our democracy.

DePerno led the charge to attack Michigan’s election results, quickly becoming a national figure in former President Trump’s effort to overturn the 2020 election. He filed a lawsuit to overturn county election results, continues to push the conspiracy theory that state voting machines were broken into and changed, and is under investigation for alleged illegal tampering with voting machines. He has also committed to ending the state’s lawsuit against Enbridge and their Line 5 oil pipeline that runs directly under Lake Michigan, threatening the Great Lakes.

CVM PAC’s #OurWaterOurVote is one of Michigan’s largest state-based campaigns this election cycle. Our robust effort focuses on re-electing leaders at the top of the ticket as well as state House, Senate and Michigan Supreme Court candidates. It continues the momentum of CVM PAC’s $3.4 million campaign in the 2018 election and $1.6 million effort in 2020 – playing a pivotal role in electing champions at all levels.
