Cuts to EPA cripple Michigan’s ability to provide fundamental environmental safeguards in communities across the state

LANSING—The Michigan League of Conservation Voters reacted to the announcement of President Trump’s budget proposal that undermines national and state environmental protections, and strips funding to protect our Great Lakes.

Not only does President Trump’s proposed budget put our Great Lakes and our economy at risk, it also hobbles our ability to protect public health, our beaches, and local drinking water programs across Michigan,” said Lisa Wozniak, executive director of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. “If these irresponsible cuts come to pass, their impact will be devastating to the air and water in our communities.”

Michigan’s Department of Environmental Quality relies on federal funding for approximately a third of its budget, with about 60% of those dollars going directly to local communities for maintaining key drinking and wastewater infrastructure.
