Testimony at U.S. Senate hearing on PFAS reveals foam is dangerous to touch

LANSING – Following yesterday’s federal hearing on PFAS contamination where Director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences Linda Birnbaum testified that foam resulting from PFAS contamination is dangerous to touch, the Michigan League of Conservation Voters issued the following statement:

“Plumes of toxic PFAS foam continue to appear in rivers, lakes and streams across Michigan. Expert testimony this week in Washington, D.C. revealed that PFAS foam is dangerous to touch, which should sound alarm bells for Michigan officials and lawmakers,” said Bob Allison, deputy director of Michigan LCV. “These latest revelations highlight the need for state and local health department officials to be clear with the public that you can, in fact, be exposed to PFAS by coming in contact with contaminated foam or water.  This only underscores why we need our state lawmakers to take action now and protect our children and families by passing an enforceable drinking standard for these ‘forever chemicals’ and aggressively start cleaning up this crisis.”
