Senate committee passes bill to dedicate billions to lead pipe removal, water upgrades
The Michigan League of Conservation Voters today released a statement in support of Senate Bill 565, a multi-billion-dollar investment for water infrastructure that unanimously passed the Senate Appropriations Committee and is headed for a full vote in the Senate. The legislation would provide funding for lead line replacement, dam repairs and sewer line improvements.
“Michigan’s crumbling infrastructure poses a direct threat to the health and safety of our communities, and the future of our state’s economy, so we must harness the real opportunity in these federal stimulus packages to reinvest and fund our water,” said Nick Occhipinti, government affairs director of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. “This bill’s historic investment demonstrates yet again that protecting our water is not a partisan issue, and ensuring Michiganders have access to clean, safe drinking water is paramount to our future.”
