Michigan LCV statement on President Trump’s budget proposal

LANSING – Lisa Wozniak, executive director of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s federal budget proposal, which cuts funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) from $300 million to $30. Today’s budget proposal marks the third time President Trump has proposed slashing funding for the GLRI.

“President Trump’s latest proposal to gut funding for the broadly supported Great Lakes Restoration Initiative is yet another attack on our Great Lakes, economy and Michigan way of life.” said Lisa Wozniak, executive director at Michigan LCV. “For the third time, Trump is trying to dismantle the GLRI which plays a critical role in cleaning up toxic pollution like PFAS and preventing the spread of invasive species. We call on lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to reject this dangerous proposal, as they did the last two years, and stand up for our most precious natural resource.”
