Michigan LCV statement on House Bill 5095

LANSING – The Michigan League of Conservation Voters today issued the following statement after Governor Rick Snyder vetoed HB 5095, legislation that would have weakened Michigan’s ballast water standards to levels set by the U.S. Coast Guard, making the Great Lakes more vulnerable to aquatic invasive species.

“Vetoing this misguided legislation is the right move for protecting our Great Lakes from invasive species like sea lamprey and Asian carp,” said Lisa Wozniak, executive director of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. “We need stronger protections for our water, not weaker and this legislation that would have unnecessarily put our Great Lakes at risk.”
