Michigan LCV hails Senate passage of solar tax legislation

LANSING – The Michigan League of Conservation Voters (Michigan LCV) today issued the following statement regarding the Michigan Senate’s unanimous approval of House Bills 4465 and 4069 and Senate Bill 47, legislation that would clarify how solar panels installed on residential homes and businesses are taxed, removing barriers for customers that want to invest in homegrown clean energy.

“We applaud the passage of this much-needed legislation that provides clarity on how homegrown renewable energy is taxed,” said Nicholas Occhipinti, government affairs director for Michigan LCV. “We should be encouraging Michiganders to generate their own clean, renewable energy to lower electricity costs and reduce pollution in our air and water. This legislation fixes the current confusing patchwork of local tax structures for rooftop solar, and we urge Gov. Whitmer to swiftly sign these bills into law.”
