Michigan LCV: Burning coal threatens our water

LANSING – The Michigan League of Conservation Voters today issued the following statement regarding a new white paper released by the Michigan Environmental Council on the impacts of burning coal on water quality.

“Our Great lakes, rivers, streams and drinking water face monumental threats, and that includes toxic chemicals from burning coal that are polluting our air, land and water,” said Lisa Wozniak, executive director of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. “This report should serve as a reminder that coal plants are a significant source of water contamination, and speeding up the closure of polluting coal plants and transitioning to clean, renewable energy is essential to protecting our water.”
