Michigan LCV announces post-primary endorsements for 2018 class of environmental champions

Ann Arbor, MI – The Michigan League of Conservation Voters (Michigan LCV) today announced its post-primary endorsements for 24 candidates running for office in the Michigan House of Representatives and Senate. The post-primary endorsements come after Michigan LCV released two rounds of early endorsements in light of significant challenges facing Michigan’s air, land, drinking water and Great Lakes.

“We are in the midst of a growing PFAS water contamination crisis that is impacting communities across Michigan.  It is imperative that we elect lawmakers who prioritize the health of our communities,” said Lisa Wozniak, executive director of Michigan LCV. “We need champions in the state Legislature who will roll up their sleeves and fight for the health of our Great Lakes, rivers, streams and drinking water.”

Michigan LCV endorsed the following candidates: Mari Manoogian (D-HD 40), Padma Kuppa (D-HD 41), Nate Shannon (D-HD 25), Rachel Hood (D-HD 76), Matt Koleszar (D-HD 20), Angela Witwer (D-HD 71), Tanya Cabala (D-HD 91), Henry Yanez (D-SD 10), Sean McCann (D-SD 20), Mallory McMorrow (D-SD 13), Winnie Brinks (D-SD 29), Scott Dianda (D-SD 38), Dayna Polehanki (D-SD 7), Tenisha Yancey (D-HD 1), Sherry Gay-Dagnogo (D-HD 8), Jewell Jones (D-HD 11), Alex Garza (D-HD 12), Kyra Bolden Harris (D-HD 35), Julie Brixie (D-HD 69), Jeremy Moss (D-SD 11), Ken Summers (D-HD 110), Vanessa Guerra (D-HD 95), Mark Huizenga (R-HD 74), Phil Phelps (D-SD 32)

With 50 open seats in the State Legislature, Michigan LCV believes it is important to set a clear standard for what an environmental champion looks like. For more information, read Michigan LCV’s blog post on the latest endorsements.

“Michigan LCV remains committed to ensuring our elected officials are advocates for our land, air and water, especially at a time when we need those champions the most,” said Phil Roos, Michigan LCV Board President. “We will continue fighting alongside those who defend our communities and make the health and wellbeing of Michiganders a top priority.”
