Michigan LCV announces endorsements for Michigan Supreme Court

LANSING – The Michigan League of Conservation Voters (Michigan LCV) today announced Michigan Supreme Court endorsements for incumbent Chief Justice Bridget Mary McCormack and candidate Elizabeth Welch. McCormack is running for re-election, and Welch is running for her first term on the court. The importance of maintaining a fair and impartial court system that works to provide Michigan citizens with an even-handed application of the law cannot be underestimated. The Michigan Supreme Court serves not only as the final arbiter on contentious legal issues, but it also oversees the administration of the entire court system throughout the state in providing everyone with access to justice.

  • Chief Justice Bridget Mary McCormack joined the Michigan Supreme Court in January 2013 and became Chief Justice in January 2019. Throughout her career, Chief Justice McCormack has served as a model for working with her colleagues to ensure a fair and impartial decision-making process. She has also worked tirelessly to promote positive change in the way the courts throughout the state provide access to the judicial system regardless of an individual’s circumstances.
  • Elizabeth Welch is an attorney with Welch Law, where she works in labor and employment law. As an attorney, Welch has demonstrated a high level of professionalism and commitment to the law, earning the respect of clients, fellow lawyers and judges. Throughout her career, Welch has continued to take on leadership roles that demonstrate her commitment to broadening access to the justice system for all people.

Based on their proven individual records, their demonstration of fair and ethical application of the law to resolve legal disputes, and their ongoing understanding of the crucial importance of providing access to justice for all, Michigan LCV is proud to endorse Chief Justice Bridget Mary McCormack and Elizabeth Welch for the Michigan Supreme Court in the 2020 Election.

Additional endorsements for state and local elections are forthcoming. For a full list of Michigan LCV’s endorsements visit: https://michiganlcv.org/elections/endorsements-3-3/
