Michigan LCV, employee union reach historic contract

Michigan LCV Workers United ratifies organization’s
first collective bargaining agreement

Michigan League of Conservation Voters has reached a collective bargaining agreement with its staff union, Michigan LCV Workers United, a member of the Newspaper Guild of Detroit CWA Local 34022.  The historic first contract was unanimously adopted by its members and includes wage increases, expansions of benefits and other provisions to support both employees and the long-term health of the organization.

“We proudly supported our staff in their right to a union and we know that this only makes our organization stronger as we move forward together,” said Lisa Wozniak, executive director of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. “This historic contract bolsters what our organization has always stood for – respect and dignity on the job for our staff – and is a testament to our belief in those values.  This agreement honors the hard work that members of Michigan LCV Workers United bring every day to this movement.”

Michigan LCV Workers United was voluntarily recognized by Michigan LCV on Sept. 1, 2023.  Approval of the contract comes almost exactly one year after negotiations began.

“We’re proud of our Collective Bargaining Agreement because it is an Agreement that each and every one of our members helped shape,” said Ethan Petzold, political coordinator for Michigan LCV and unit chair for Michigan LCV Workers United. “Both sides approached the process of bargaining with mutual respect and the intent of being productive and working together to reach an agreement every step of the way. The victories in this Agreement and the unanimous vote for ratification serves as a model for what is possible when workers come together to form a union.”
