Michigan LCV applauds Gov. Whitmer for protecting health of Michiganders

LANSING – The Michigan League of Conservation Voters (Michigan LCV) today applauded an announcement by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer that enacts comprehensive changes to state agencies charged with protecting air, land, water, and the health of Michigan communities. Gov. Whitmer announced she will create a new state agency — the Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy –that rightly brings together the old Department of Environmental Quality, the Agency for Energy, and a new Office of Climate and Energy.

“Governor Whitmer is demonstrating yet again that our state government will be shaped to deliver on protecting public health, be accountable to citizens, and power our economy with clean, affordable energy,” said Lisa Wozniak, executive director of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. “Today’s announcement is a step toward ensuring Michigan cleans up toxic contamination in our drinking water, addresses climate change head-on, and is a regional leader in creating the jobs of the future.”
