Michigan LCV applauds final EPA methane emissions rule
NEW POLLUTION STANDARD WILL TIGHTEN LIMITS ON METHANE POLLUTION FROM OIL AND GAS PLANTS, PROTECT FRONTLINE COMMUNITIES
LANSING – The Michigan League of Conservation Voters today issued the following statement after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced its final Methane Pollution Standard for emissions from oil and gas plants and facilities across the country.
“The EPA’s final Methane Pollution Standard will help reduce toxic air pollution in and around oil and gas plants, where environmental justice communities have historically borne the brunt of power plant pollution and subsequent health impacts,” said Bentley Johnson, federal government affairs director for the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. “Although there is more work to be done to limit methane emissions more aggressively, the new standard is an example of policy solutions we can pursue at the federal level to protect frontline communities and address toxic air pollution, and we applaud the EPA for taking steps to do so.”
