Michigan LCV applauds AG Nessel for filing monumental lawsuit to decommission Line 5

LANSING – The Michigan League of Conservation Voters today applauded Attorney General Dana Nessel for filing a monumental lawsuit to decommission the 66-year-old Line 5 Pipeline under the Straits of Mackinac.

“The damaged, 66-year-old Line 5 pipeline that pumps millions of gallons of Canadian oil under our Great Lakes each day has been allowed to operate for far too long,” said Lisa Wozniak, executive director of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. “We applaud Attorney General Nessel for taking legal action to shut down Line 5 once and for all. Canadian oil company Enbridge Energy has proven time and again it cannot be trusted and today’s move by our attorney general is a much needed first step toward protecting our Great Lakes from an oil spill. We urge Gov. Whitmer to work with AG Nessel to shut down Line 5 as soon as possible.”
