Biography

Chief Justice Robert P. Young, Jr., was the 68th Chief Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court. He was appointed to the Court in 1999 by Governor John Engler (R), was elected in 2000 and 2002, and re-elected in 2010. He was elected Chief Justice in 2011 and his term expires in 2019.

Chief Justice Young attended Harvard for his undergraduate and law school educations. He served on the Michigan Court of Appeals from 1995 to 1999. Prior to that, he was general counsel at AAA Michigan and a partner at the Dickinson Wright law firm in Detroit, where he grew up.
