Michigan LCV Says Governor Snyder’s State of the State Address is a Call to Action for Strong Clean Energy Policy This Year
Michigan League of Conservation Voters (Michigan LCV) recognized Governor Snyder for naming energy as a priority in 2015, and said that Michigan cannot afford to delay any longer on a strong energy plan that moves our state towards greater use of clean energy. Michigan LCV gave the Governor a “neutral” score on How Green is Your Governor? — an accountability tool for the Executive Branch.
“Tonight Governor Snyder highlighted a big window of opportunity to increase Michigan’s use of renewable energy and energy efficiency, but we cannot afford to wait any longer to seize it,” said Lisa Wozniak, Executive Director for Michigan LCV. “Each day that goes by without increasing our use of renewable energy and energy efficiency means jobs and opportunities are going to other states. Now, the Governor and our State Legislature must put pen to paper and pass a plan that strengthens our commitment to clean, reliable and affordable energy.”
Governor Snyder introduced a special energy address planned for early March, and provided nods to important conservation issues such as invasive species and increasing our state’s recycling rate. The Governor also pointed to the success of Michigan’s tourism industry, which is a strong driver of our state’s natural resources economy.
“We are encouraged by Governor Snyder’s commitment to a clean energy plan that will create jobs and protect our clean air and drinking water from pollution and look forward to hearing his more detailed plan in March,” said Jack Schmitt, Deputy Director for Michigan LCV. “With Michigan’s current clean energy goals expiring in 2015, this year must be the year of action.”
Michigan LCV scored Governor Snyder’s State of the State address on How Green is Your Governor?, giving the Governor a “neutral” score for his acknowledgement that energy policy is a priority in 2015.
