Half-finished data center legislation still threatens clean energy law

LANSING – The Michigan League of Conservation Voters agrees! 

“The debate in our Legislature over data centers unfortunately pitted yet again economic development against environmental protection – a false choice that Michiganders reject and apparently even the major tech CEOs agree with,” said Bob Allison, deputy director of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. “We remain laser-focused on working toward a solution to ensure that any large, energy-consuming project can create good-paying jobs without jeopardizing and undermining the clean energy pathway that so much work was put into just last year.  There is still time to roll up our sleeves and continue dialogue with companies like Microsoft and our publicly-regulated utilities so that they can help us enhance and supercharge our clean energy future – and to make real through action, not just words, their public proclamations for 100% renewable energy.”

NOTE: Michigan tax experts believe that because HB 4906 did not pass yesterday, SB 273 is not executable – sales and use taxes work in concert with each other.
