Third-annual Breakfast of Conservation Champions celebrates outstanding business and community leaders who have shown how sustainability, diversity, equity, and inclusion drive our economy and create healthy communities

 

WHO: Michigan League of Conservation Voters will be honoring:

 

OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY LEADER (BUSINESS): OST (OPEN SYSTEMS TECHNOLOGIES)

OST (Open Systems Technologies) for partnering with Grand Rapids Public Schools to take learning outside the classroom and bring every single GRPS 5th grader to Lake Michigan — many for the first time — for a one-of-a-kind place-based educational experience.

Outstanding Community Leader (Individual): Kenyatta Brame

Kenyatta Brame for being a driving force for diversity, equity, and inclusion at Cascade Engineering — one of the most environmentally responsible corporations in the world — and for helping to create a brand new pipeline of growth opportunities for people of color across West Michigan through a partnership with GVSU to create an annual Young Professionals of Color Conference.

George Heartwell Emerging Leader: Sarah Chartier

Sarah Chartier works as Sustainability Program Manager for Spectrum Health, reducing waste and mitigating the hospital system’s environmental footprint. She also has leadership roles in the West Michigan Sustainable Business Forum and the 2030 District Leadership Council.

 

Keynote Speaker: Jocelyn Benson

Jocelyn Benson is CEO of the Ross Initiative in Sports for Equality (RISE). At RISE, Benson is working with top sports leagues, organizations, athletes, educators, professionals, and media networks to improve race relations by promoting understanding, respect and equality. Benson also ran for Michigan Secretary of State in 2010, has a background in civil rights law, education law, and election law, and served as dean of Wayne State Law School from 2012-2016.
