Michigan LCV opposes Trump rollback of Clean Power Plan

MLCV urges state, local action to defend the Great Lakes and Michigan jobs amid Trump’s attacks on clean energy

The Michigan League of Conservation Voters (MLCV) today criticized the Trump Administration for its move to gut historic clean air and climate change policies that protect Michigan families and paved the way for new clean energy jobs in the state.

The Clean Power Plan was landmark policy that has protected our air, land, Great Lakes, and sparked clean energy job creation in Michigan and throughout the country,” said Lisa Wozniak, executive director of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. “This should be a wake-up call to every Michigander and every elected official who represents them.  We need state and local action now to defend what makes Michigan a great place to live, work and raise a family.”

Michigan LCV praised historic, bipartisan action taken last year by state and local leaders to expand the use of clean, renewable energy throughout Michigan – noting that communities and state government must lead the way to turn back climate change and promote clean energy.

Energy reforms approved by the Michigan Legislature and signed by Gov. Rick Snyder in December are creating new jobs, reducing ratepayer costs and protecting our environment by expanding renewable energy and energy efficiency.  In addition, multiple communities throughout the state – including Grand Rapids and Traverse City – have committed to 100% renewable energy goals.

This attack on clean energy and climate protections is outrageous.  We are the defenders of our natural resources here in Michigan,” Wozniak continued. “If the federal government won’t take action to protect our environment, we’re counting on state and local leaders to stand up and do so.”

Wozniak noted citizens can make their voices heard on April 29 by participating in planned Climate Marches being organized by MLCV and partners in Traverse City and Kalamazoo.  More information is available at: michiganlcv.org/events
