People, Planet, and Profit: Celebrating Detroit’s Renaissance

Join us at the Westin Book Cadillac Detroit to celebrate the key role Michigan’s cities, business leaders, and philanthropic community play in setting our state on course toward a sustainable future.

Honorary Co-hosts

Lisa and Hannan Lis

Advocate of the Year

Jalonne White-Newsome undertook groundbreaking work with the Obama administration to integrate environmental justice into federal policymaking for the first time. Today she continues to work on behalf of communities afflicted with polluted air and water as a Senior Program Officer with the Kresge Foundation.

Business Leader of the Year

In 2017, DTE Energy announced a bold plan to generate 40 percent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2040, and reduce its carbon emissions by more than 80 percent by 2050. Their plan will reduce air pollution, meet the challenge of climate change, and deliver reliable and affordable energy for millions of Michiganders.

Legislator of the Year

State Representative Stephanie Chang has established herself as a champion for the health and wellness of communities across Michigan that face disproportionate levels of pollution. Early in her career, she has already shown herself to be a strong advocate for the people of her district comprising Detroit, River Rouge, and Ecorse.
