It's no secret that I'm in love with the state of Michigan. Between the majesty of the Great Lakes, the sugar sand beaches, the forests, and the hundreds and hundreds of inland lakes, rivers and streams, the "wild" of Michigan is beyond compare. Add in the red sandstone of the Keewenaw Peninsula, Tahquamenon Falls, the wine country of Leelanau, and the amazing sense of place found in each community, from north to south, east to west ... I'm more than smitten.

Saugatuck Dunes Named One of America's 11 Most Endangered Places; How You Can Help

The Saugatuck Dunes are in the national spotlight today, for an unfortunate reason. The 2,500-acre Michigan site has been named as one of America's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Lisa Wozniak, executive director of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters, was in Saugatuck for the announcement.

As twenty-two enthusiastic supporters of the environment settled into their seats on the 4:45 Express Bus for the Michigan League of Conservation Voters Gubernatorial Forum being held Central Michigan University, our Bus Captain and LCV Board Member, Fran Alexander, was busy making sure that all aboard had a beer, pizza and carrots to enjoy.

It is spring break for our lawmakers in Lansing, and despite a budget that remains unbalanced, and a looming July 1st budget deadline, most legislators are off in their districts stumping the campaign trail. So not much legislation will be moving in the next two weeks, but here at Michigan LCV the show must go on!
