An Historic Day in DC!

Posted by Lisa: The city is filled--literally--with millions of people who have come from all over the country for this incredible day! This morning I met people from Seattle, LA, Idaho, Minnesota, Florida just in one small area of the Mall as I waited to get into the Blue ticketed area. The Metro was PACKED (and I mean, PACKED) full to the brim, the streets in downtown were a sea of color! Not only a sea of colorful winter coats and hats....and LOTS of Obama pins, flags, scarves, etc....but a sea of people...of every color, every size, every shape, from every state! Everyone was excited and kind and talkative. People spoke to each other with respect and appreciation and a sense of awe that we were all there together for such an historic event.

The only bummer was that for Congressional office ticket holders (purple, blue, silver) the lines were horrendous and the planning on the part of security very bad. I waited in line to get into the blue ticketed area for 3 hours (some people had been there for 5 hours +) and when, at 10:50, it appeared that there was NO WAY I was going to get in, I sprinted for the Metro and headed back to my father's place where my boys were warmly snuggled on the couch watching it on TV. I made it there by 11:45 just in time to see the Inauguration on CNN...and I wept all the way through it. But, there were hundreds of thousands of people who didn't have the luxury of a place to sprint back to and probably lost out in the watching......folks from Seattle, LA, Idaho, and all over the country.

But, the sun is shining and spirits are high. This is a day that many thought would never come to be. What a time to be alive...and to be a part of making this possible! Thanks to all who have kept the faith in our democratic process!
